VW Malaysia joins recall of 7-speed DSG cars
PETALING JAYA - Volkswagen Group Malaysia is recalling some cars fitted with the seven-speed Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) following a similar exercise in Singapore.
Responding to media queries, a Volkswagen Malaysia spokesman said it had identified 3,962 cars in the country that may have the faulty transmission.
He emphasised that only vehicles produced between June 2010 and June 2011 were involved in the recall exercise.
"The mechatronics unit in the seven-speed gearbox will be replaced at no cost to the customer.
"Volkswagen Malaysia is working with our authorised dealers to contact affected customers individually," he said, adding that affected models included the Passat, Polo, Scirocco, Golf, Jetta and Cross Touran.
In a recent report by Singapore's Straits Times, 6,181 VW cars in the island republic were said to have been recalled.
The report said that in rare cases, an electronic malfunction in the control unit or a lack of oil pressure inside the gearbox mechatronics may result in a power interruption.
